How to create an image choice quiz

An image choice quiz (also called a picture quiz, visual quiz, or image-based multiple choice quiz) helps respondents answer faster because they can recognize options visually.

In QuizFlow Labs, you build this with the Multiple Choice block using the Media card style.

Why use image choices

  • Faster decision making for product match, style, and preference quizzes.
  • Better mobile UX when text labels are short and visuals carry the meaning.
  • Stronger conversion paths when paired with tags, scoring, and Jump Logic.

Build a visual multiple choice quiz

  1. Add a Multiple Choice block and write your prompt.
  2. Open Settings and set Style to Media card.
  3. Return to Options and add media for each choice card using either file upload or Search GIFs.
  4. Add optional Alt text and set image position to Large top (card image), Top (label under image), or Left (label beside image).
  5. Assign optional Tags and Scores, then add Jump Logic rules for routing.

Image upload limits and quality guardrails

To keep quiz load speed fast and hosting costs predictable, Media card options enforce these limits:

  • JPG, PNG, or WebP only.
  • Max 10 MB source image before processing.
  • Auto-compression to max 1200px longest side.
  • Must be 500 KB or smaller after compression.
  • GIFs can be selected with Search GIFs (GIPHY-powered picker) and applied per choice.

If a file does not pass validation, the editor blocks it immediately so you can retry with a lighter image.

New uploads default to Large top (card image) to keep image-based choices visually prominent.

Recommended image choice quiz patterns

Product recommendation quiz

Use one product category image per option, tag each choice, and route to product-specific completion CTAs.

For a complete workflow, see How to build a product recommendation quiz.

Style or preference quiz

Use consistent framing and lighting so respondents compare options fairly.

Learning and assessment quiz

Pair image options with scoring and answer key controls for visual knowledge checks.

SEO and conversion best practices for visual quizzes

  • Keep prompts concrete: one decision per question.
  • Keep labels short: 1 to 4 words under each image.
  • Use consistent image dimensions across all choices.
  • Add alt text for accessibility and clearer semantics.
  • Use tags to personalize completion copy and downstream automations.
